Martial Arts Woburn

Welcome to Krav Maga Yashir Woburn! We teach the Israeli Martial art of Krav Maga, in Woburn, Massachusetts. Krav Maga is a martial art - used by the IDF (Israeli Defense Force)that teaches you how to defend yourself in the shortest possible time against both unarmed and armed attacks, involving both single and multiple attackers, when standing, seated or on the ground etc. Our martial arts school in Woburn teaches both adults along with children and teens effective and proven self-defense.

Krav Maga is a martial art that is based on instinctive and natural responses to threats and attacks, rather than on artificial and learned movements, like most martial arts. This allows for an individual to successfully perform techniques, when surprised and unprepared. In most martial arts and combat sports this isn’t the case, and practitioners train in an environment where an instructor or referee informs those who are fighting or sparring when the contest begins, with both participants usually starting at some distance from each other (something that doesn’t happen in real-life scenarios, where violence is up close and personal). With most martial arts, including MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) and BJJ, “fights” or contests are designed to be fair, so that those involved can demonstrate the art e.g., fights/contests are organized with weight categories and belt levels etc. Real life violent encounters are rarely fair, with aggressors attempting to catch those they victimize off-guard, and in a disadvantaged position. The martial art of Krav Maga recognizes this and trains practitioners to be able to respond when caught unaware. The atmosphere created at the school is warm and inviting, with respect being shown to everyone who steps onto the mats. I, like most people, was nervous before my first class, but this nervousness was put at ease rather quickly, as everyone seemed to go out of their way to make me feel comfortable. There is a close, friendly environment amongst the students here, without any sense of exclusion. Justin. T.
Gershon, the instructor, is awesome! He gives super practical advice, firmly grounded in extensive study of psychology and human behavior. I really appreciated the background in why people might attack you, what sorts of scenarios (planned/spontaneous), how to analyze the causes, etc. I'd go as far as to say this was the most valuable part of the class for me. E. Owen.

Krav Maga Books By Gershon Ben Keren

Gershon Ben Keren has written three books on the Israeli martial art of Krav Maga. The books detail the fundamental concepts and principles of the system, demonstrating techniques in the settings and environments where real-life violence occurs. The martial arts techniques demonstrated in these books were shot in real-time using full speed attacks. This allows the books to capture the dynamic nature of violence that wouldn’t have been possible had still photographs been taken. To read in more detail about each block, click on the covers below.

Krav Maga - Real World Solutions

Gershon Ben Keren’s first book on the Israeli martial art of Krav Maga introduces readers to some of the basic and fundamental concepts upon which the system is based. Unlike most martial arts Krav Maga is not defined by its physical techniques but upon some flexible principles that allow the system to adapt and evolve as violence does. The book’s self-defense component looks largely at the types of attacks and assaults that characterize premeditated violence i.e., violent acts committed by predatory individuals who plan them.

Krav Maga - Tactical Survival

In “Krav Maga Tactical Survival”, Gershon Ben Keren’s, second book on the Israeli martial art of Krav Maga, the central theme is that of dealing with social violence. Social violence occurs as a result of negative social interactions e.g., when a person accidentally knocks into another, or jumps a queue etc. Some people at certain times may take these interactions to represent challenges to their identity and person and respond aggressively in order to dispense their feelings of frustration and/or restore their self-identity etc.

Krav Maga Extreme Survival

“Krav Maga Extreme Survival” looks at the Israeli Martial Arts solutions to extreme types of violence, such as active shooter scenarios, car-Jackings, and home invasions etc. Although not as common as the types of scenarios described in the first two books, they are situations where the consequences are likely to be much more serious e.g., in most street robberies as long as a person acquiesces to the demands of a mugger, they are likely to walk away unharmed. Unfortunately, in the scenarios described in the third book this is not likely to be the case.

Gershon Ben Keren Google Author Talks

Gershon Ben Keren is one of only a handful of authors who has presented two Google Author Talks i.e. who was asked back. These talks are designed for authors to share and expand on the ideas contained in their books with a large audience. In his first talk, Gershon discusses the various processes that predatory offenders use to gain access to those they target and victimize. This includes the various locations that they choose to commit their offenses, their victim selection criteria, and the way they approach those they’ve selected. His second talk focuses on social violence and how de-escalation and conflict resolution methods can be used to prevent aggressive verbal interactions from progressing and developing into physical confrontations.
